28 Days to Recovery or How the Closet Finally Got Organized

I’m pretty sure we alone are responsible for keeping Fisher-Price in business for the last 8 years (along with Duracell, Juicy Juice, and Pepperidge Farm).  Our counters are covered with papers, and the kid’s closets are bursting at the seams with clothes I know they will no longer fit into.  We moved 12 months ago, and I still have boxes and boxes I have no idea what’s inside.   I keep waiting for the magic day when the world stops just for me so that I can have a couple of weeks to get organized.  I keep waiting.  I’m still waiting.  I’m looking for a freakin’ pumpkin patch that’s truly sincere s0 I can stop waiting.  And it’s not happening.

So I am taking matters into my own hands & jumping on board the Org Junkie 28 Day Organizing Challenge!  I’m going to focus on a small space, with a BIG problem.  Behold!  The three-year-old’s closet:

I wish I could say I messed it up just for dramatic effect with the “After” picture, but that’s just not the case.  It’s been on my organizing list for months so I’m anxious to be held accountable to finally getting it done.  It has a good structure started – there’s a bar low enough the little man can hang his own clothes, and we do have a shelf with some bins for storing clothes.  But do you see those boxes?  Those smashed and dented cardboard boxes?  Those are still unopened from moving.  Twelve months, and I haven’t opened them.  Pretty sure those can go.

I’m not looking forward to sorting through all the stuff though – that’s my least favorite thing to do so if I can get through that, I’m sure it will be a piece of cake.  I’ll be posting my progress as I work through the challenge so come back and check up on me, I could use the push every now and then ;-)
